Larry & Teresa Adams
Owners, AAA Window Siding & Doors
My story begins on a hot, humid day in the boot-heel of Missouri in the town of Kennett. My mother and father raised 6 children of which I was #4. My family lived in a share croppers shack which had no plumbing or running water. We heated the shack with wood because we couldn't afford to pay for coal. My father always said that "wood heats you twice. Once when you cut it and once when you burn it." My mom was a hard working, God fearing woman that always told us, "we may be poor, but we will not be dirty." I can remember her sweeping a dirt floor. At the age of 5 or 6 I was issued my first "pick sack" to pick cotton. My quota was 20lbs of cotton a day. The average man could pick 200-300lbs per day at 1 cent per pound. Then there was my mother who could out-pick most any man and would pick close to 400lbs a day. When I was 8 years old my parents made the decision to move to Illinois where my father landed a job as a farm hand in Assumption.

I always had a job. In the summers, walking beans, and in the winter I mucked pig barns. I almost always worked to buy school clothes and a few small treasures. My first major accomplishment was in 1970 as a freshman in high school when I received Varsity Letterman Status. I excelled at basketball, track and baseball. I loved to compete. After graduating in 1974 I made the decision to enter the work force full time instead of going to college to play basketball. I became a certified welder, working night shift at a factory in Springfield building earth moving equipment. I loved the paycheck but hated the job, so when the plant closed I was certain my next job would not be in a factory.

I got a job as a measurement with a growing home improvement company in Decatur. It was here that I became friends with some of the sales people that helped me to decide to enter the sales force. I knew that I had a lot to learn but learn I did , through much blood sweat and tears. A few years after I was promoted to Sales Manager, then District Manager with several branches under me. I was with this company for about 13 years before starting my own company in Lincoln in 1994, Gold Star Home Improvements. I eventually sold out to my partner stated up AAA Windows, Siding, Doors in 2007 with my wife, Teresa.
